Sophie
Sophie Morris is a dynamic and versatile singer, actor, and presenter whose captivating performances have earned critical acclaim both in New Zealand and internationally. Her love for the stage began at age 10 when she was cast as Gretl in The Sound of Music, igniting a passion that has seen her grace stages around the world ever since.
Armed with a Bachelor of Music (First-Class Honours) in Classical Voice Performance, a Master of Music (Distinction) in Contemporary Voice Performance, and a Bachelor of Commerce from Otago University, Sophie’s talents are as diverse as her education.
Sophie’s live performance career spans across a wide range of iconic events and collaborations. She's performed for renowned acts such as Four Suits and a Soprano, graced the stage at Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park, and brought her powerhouse vocals to the Silver Scrolls, Arts Festival Dunedin, Celtic Illusion, and Celtica (Australia and New Zealand Tours). She’s been a key figure in performances for Duco Events, the NZ Blind Foundation/Eye Fund UK, City Choir Dunedin (soprano soloist in The Messiah), Starship Hospital, iD Fashion Week, and the Chinese New Year Spring Festival in Nanning, China.
Her acclaim reached new heights in 2018 when she joined The Ten Tenors as their first-ever female touring guest for the New Zealand leg of their Wish You Were Here Tour, part of their 20th Anniversary World Tour.
As a musical theatre and operatic performer, Sophie has brought to life a range of iconic roles, including Jellylorum in Cats, Sophie in Mamma Mia!, Rapunzel in Into the Woods, Sandy in Grease: The Arena Spectacular LIVE, and Pamina in The Magic Flute.
Sophie’s voice has also been heard at many international sporting events, including the 2020 Rugby TriNations, the T20 Black Clash (Black Caps and All Blacks), and the Parker v Ruiz WBO World Heavyweight Championship Title Fight, among others.
In addition to her musical career, Sophie has a strong presence in film, television, theatre, and commercial productions. Notably, she played Kaz on the iconic Kiwi TV series Shortland Street and was a regular presenter for Channel 39’s evening news. She is also making her mark as a radio announcer for More FM, holding her own behind the mic and bringing the same charisma and energy that define her on stage to the airwaves.
Sophie has also wowed audiences with sell-out performances of her own concerts, including Sophie Goes to Broadway and Sophie Morris on Stage, showcasing her unique blend of vocal talent and stage prowess.
From musical theatre to operatic arias, from the broadcast studio to international tours, Sophie’s passion for performance shines through in everything she does, leaving a lasting impression wherever she goes.
